I have a Document folder in my C: drive called LETTERS . This folder contains several files and two subfolders: SPAIN and SPAIN.odt. The second folder was where I stored several dozen letters (slow mail actual letters). Recently I wanted to retrieve one of those letters. Clicking on the folder I found two items: DOC File and OpenDocument Text but no letters. DOC File is 11 KB and OpenDocument Text is 1,872 KB. If I click on DOC File, I find one of the letters. If I click on OpenDocument Text, I find the remaining 130 letters. How did these two documents get created and how do I get rid of them? I tried moving all the files to a temp folder on another drive, then delete everything in SPAIN.odt, then move them back to SPAIN.odt. All the files ended up back in OpenDocument Text. How do I get rid of this folder, or whatever it is?

2009 HP Desk Top Computer
I have comcast internet and I have great speed. I may have a problem with my Hard Drive? I log off and turn off my computer for the night. The next day I turn on the CPU and screen. From the time I push the CPU button to the time I enter my PC password it may take up to 5 minutes to see that password screen. The screen is black and goes to sleep, and sometimes I have to log out and then do the step all over again and then usually I see where I can enter my password. I was told that my hardrive may be in need of a replacement. I have taken apart the frame to vacuum the dust that gets on the mother board on occasions very carefully. With the information I have given, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I am a bit above a novice with computers, but I have taught myself quite a bit but though I love computers and can get around relatively easy on my PC, yet I am still a bit above a novice.. I do need some profession suggestions. My computer is 6 years old as of December, and is a top of the line system at that time in 2009. I use a 6500 HP Printer All Inclusive with my PC.

windows 10
I had Win 7 then I downloaded Win 10 , was ok for a while then went into continual restarting loop. It will not accept any command, I've tried pressing the normal F keys on start up and Esc key but laptop will not respond just keeps restating, shows window icon and rotating dots and says there has been a problem and needs to collect info and will restart. So begins the series again. I cannot even get Safe boot. I wish i had never heard of Win 10 !!!!!! Aghhhh:facepalm::confused:

My laptop keeps freezing! several times a day!
I don't know what the problem is..I don't even have a lot of things open..one time flash crashed my browser (Chrome) but I don't know if this is the problem or not.. everyday, mulitple times a day my laptop just freezes and I always have to shut it down manually..and I don't know why this is happening.

Videos not playing correctly.
So, first off, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, if not, I'm sorry.
The problem I'm having is that almost all of my videos look like the picture I included. I've tried both new files and old files (some of which I have seen numerous times without a single problem), and nothing works. If it doesn't show up like that green, garbled mess, I lose frames and the animation is very choppy.
Yes, I am using VLC Player. Yes, I have tried to update the drivers for my graphics card, it says I have the latest version.
I'm really worried there could be a problem with the graphics card itself.

My laptop is a Toshiba Sattelite L450-01M. In December it'll be six years old, so yes, by computer standards it's practically ancient, but it's worked fine throughout all these years and has only recently started to slow down a bit.
My graphics card is the: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
I've never had a persistent issue like this before. At times some files didn't work, but it was either the file itself or messing around with the options for VLC sorted them out.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package
hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum, but in need of some help.
About 2 weeks ago i had a few windows updates. During the update process the system seemed to have froze so i had to do a hard restart. The process repeated itself about 2 times and finally on the final restart i received an autochk scan prior to windows which resulted in the error: "Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package"
I tried to run a chkdsk command but it wouldn't perform due to using the C drive. I scheduled a fix and repair on startup but it wouldn't solve the problem. Now upon any restart or boot up the autochk runs with the same problem.
I tried to run a chkdsk cmd prompt from the original install disk but no drives were available in recovery options. So i'm left confused on how to solve this problem. Any suggestions?

[SOLVED] download pdf form causes IE to shut down
I am using Windows 7. When I try to download a form of any kind (usually a pdf form) from a web-site, a pop-up box tells me that I the file cannot be downloaded. Most of the time, IE then terminates and when I restart IE, it tells me that IE closed unexpectedly and would I like to restore the previous session. Any help?

MCE non display
My MCE TV has stopped display of TV channels. It runs through Avermedia USB A815 tuner, which turns blue as normal when in operation, but both no longer display channel vision? Have re-tuned and channels come up in EPG, plus radio channels, but nothing else?

HP DV7 frozen at the "Starting Windows" logo at startup

My 3 years old HP DV7 laptop is frozen at startup on the "Starting Windows" logo screen (i.e. the black screen with the MS logo).
Earlier today, the laptop froze and the screen turned black, I force shutdown the laptop and when I tried to restart it, the laptop is stuck at startup. This is the first time that this has happened.
It seems that I can successfully startup if I start laptop in Safe Mode, but that seems to be the only way.
I ran "System Recovery Options" from Startup Repair and got message that it can not be fixed automatically.
I have tried searching online and resetting BIOS to default with no luck.

Configuring the USB fax modem in Win7 Ult 32bit
Although I had some trouble getting the USB fax modem installed when I ran the drivers supplied with it, Device Manager revealed the modem model number, and that allowed me to search for drivers on the Net, resulting in Device Manager showing the modem and as non-problematical. Using the method outlined at Set up your Windows 7 computer to send and receive faxes, I can get only as far as the fax-set-up Window, because the mouse turns into an hour-glass after selecting 'fax modem' and clicking on NEXT; and when I abandon the attempt, an error window tells me : "MS Windows Fax & Scan is not responding". During this attempt, I had the fax connected as another phone i.e. on a filtered line. Can anyone help me make progress with this ?

Channel loads and runs 100%, but with just black screen. All controls plus amount of TV remaining program fine. Re-installed channels etc, checked resolution.

Booted into Asus Preload Wizard instead System Recovery Option
On title, I have this issue quite awhile already and i decided to give it a try. :)
My computer is Asus manufactured.
Firstly, after reboot my laptop i press F8 to go into Advanced Boot Option, then press "repair your computer" in order to boot into System Recovery Option
But then everything start to getting strange as it boot into Asus Preload Wizard ( which is factory reset ) instead go into System Recovery Option. :( Below are the photo of Asus Preload Wizard
I had tried create system repair disc but still can't boot into System Recovery Option, and its show a message "Non-system disk or disk error"
I also tried disable/enable UEFI in BIOS but still the same... :(

Computer keeps freezing
for a few moments each and every minute I am getting this error message...
The BrowserProtect service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified. I tried to fix it but to no avail.
Anyone who has anything to suggest, it would be greatly appreciated.

How do I rename DVD+RW?
Hello, Im running a DellE520 with Win7 Home Premium Build 7601 SP1.
Using Windows Backup and Restore, Im attempting to restore a file from a backup disc named DELLE520 3/23/2013 7:40 PM Drive. Refer to the screenshot Windows Explorer View. This is an Imation DVD+RW. Actually Id like to restore more files, but this is the most important one. After selecting the file I want, I then proceed through the steps until a message appears that says: The media in the drive is not the requested media. Please insert the media with the following label into E:\DELLE520 3/17/2013 8:35 PM Drive 1. Refer to the screenshot Restore Files Message. The file will not restore until this issue is solved.
There is only one disc I have to choose from. Im not sure how it happened to get labeled that way, probably some mix-up. If I select Skip this media button it does nothing to restore the file.
Would it be a good idea to rename the DVD to DELLE520 3/17/2013 8:35 PM Drive 1 and if so, exactly how is this done?
Ive tried data recovery software such as Recova, Cd Recovery Toolbox, and Systools but without success. Ive also searched on the internet for a solution, but havent found anything relevant to the issue.

Windows 7 does not update

I have a Sony VAIO laptop Windows 7 Home Premium 64
When I try to update Windows I get the massage
Windows cannot run the update because the service is not running
You may need to restart your computer
I checked the services and windows update is set to automatic delayed start
If I go to Windows update > change settings
it is set to Install update automatically but I cannot change the setting it says
"Settings are managed by your system administrator"
but this is a Personal computer I use at home

Vista winload.exe problem at startup

I have a problem with a PC running Windows Vista 32-bit.
Whenever I try to start it up I get an error that automatic repair can't fix. It says something about \Windows\System32\winload.exe might be corrupt.
It also gives me error code 0x00000f.
I physically took out the drive and connected it to another computer using USB adapter. I found 3 partitions, but it seems like the partition where Windows is installed and where most of the user files are stored doesn't show up. I'm guessing the partition is somehow corrupt? It's very important that I get these files out somehow, so I'm wondering if I can somehow repair the partition?
What I've tried to fix the partition:
I've tried running a Windows 7 32-bit repair disk (through a memory stick, if it matters, I've also read that Win 7 repair disks do better jobs than Win Vista disks, so it shouldn't matter that it's Win 7.).
Automatic repair still doesn't help and I've tried using the sfc /scannow option, the only message I get is that I have to restart because Windows needs to apply some changes that are already made. No help.

backup won't open
I had acronis true image backup, but un-installed it because I am going to install win 10 and it says that program won't work. I wanted to create a win 7 backup on my second 500gb hard drive, but when I click on win 7 backup and restore, it does not open. It did work before.

I also just tried installing the adobe flash player and installing it. It still doesn't work with it, but didn't work without it, either.
