I would like to scan a private network for viruses and malware, network is a Microsoft network. But I could use a Linux computer to scan if I had too. From time to time client gets a email from their ISP saying they are infected. I would like to scan from one station the whole network rather than jump to each station.

System Restore Runtime Error In Vista.

For some time past I have to create my own restore points, mostly, in System Restore.
When I tried to do this earlier today I got an Access Denied Message and an Error Number Ox80070005.
This came out of the blue and seems to have resolved itself in the same way.
A while ago, while checking that the above is now working, I clicked on How Do I Choose A Restore Point and got a message of a Runtime error saying:
This Application Has Requested The Runtime To Terminate In An Unusual Way.
Please contact the applications support team for further information.
Can anyone throw any light on this?
Thanks.

admin no longer admin

i am the lone user on a laptop running w7hp. i have my one, default, ID which supposedly has admin privileges, yet windows update has suddenly decided otherwise. starting around late july.

right-click "run as admin" leads to the same "must be admin" denial for me. and "allow all users" is checked, in any case. UAC set to "never notify".

unlike others in some similar threads, i have NO PROBLEMS that i know of with regedit, cmd prompt, HDD access or anything else. just windows updates!

based on some hints elsewhere, i tried THIS: Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows 7, 8, or 10

to no avail. admin acct is somehow not authorized (!) to switch my default ID to admin as well. i guess. i dunno. it says the ID is admin, but then under "change acct type" it indicates "standard user" with the option for "administrator" nonfunctional. huh? admin up top but NON-admin 3 inches below????

[same thing if i try to do it directly inside said ID in the first place, btw]

ok, forget about upgrading the default ID; i'll just stay in the real/formerly hidden admin acct and run updates from there. no dice. same popup telling me must be admin. ditto (lastly) if i do it with "run as administrator".

so...admin running as double-admin is not admin enuf for wupdates. what gives?

have run MBAM, SpyBot and HJT several times. currently DLing and trying Avast. but this seems roundabout. what is the actual PROBLEM here?

thanks!

Windows 10 on Asus Eee PC 1225b Notebook

hi,
The power button isn't working.
The only way I can boot up is by booting into Asus Express Gate Cloud (which is a different button that starts this Asus mini-os with 4 apps) then pressing "switch OS" to boot into Windows 7.

But since Windows 7 is so slow, I decided to upgrade to Windows 10.
After upgrade it worked fine (although without performance improvement IMO), and restarted.
But after shutdown and starting the Asus Express Gate Cloud, the "switch OS" button does not work - leads to a black screen and remains stuck there until i take out the battery.

Any ideas?

Installed Windows 7, 3 days later it says invalid/incorrect key code

This forum has helped me tremendously in the past, so I thank you! I have now come up with a new dilemma

I purchased an HP machine 5 years ago with Windows 7 already installed and the product key code was stuck to the side of the case. This purchase included the Microsoft W7 install disk.

Fast forward to today and I replaced the MOBO and processor. I tried and it didn't boot to the original SSD with the W7 OS. I ended up having to wipe the SSD and do a fresh install of W7 using the existing disk and Key Code from that HP machine.

Installation went without a hiccup and it accepted the W7 Product Key Code just fine. 3 days after install a windows alert popped up and it said I either had the incorrect keycode or wrong code for the OS. I hit cancel and went about my business. Well, the following day (yesterday) I got the same alert. I hit cancel and went about my business.

What do I do?

I need to transfer about 64 GB of data from a windows 7 laptop to a windows 10 laptop using a LAN cable. Googleing seems to be OK for the win7 setup, but I cannot find any help for the win 10 laptop. The network setup language is much different and harder to follow for the 10 laptop. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Update Errors (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 and 0x80070557)

$

Hello,

I am currently having issues with updates on my windows 7 x64 system sp1. It all started when I tried getting the 'Get Windows 10 App'. I tried everything and for some reason my computer won't download it. It said my system isn't up-to-date even though I have the computer set to install all updates. The only update it won't install is the Microsoft NET Framework 4.5.2. I tried over and over again and looked for some solutions online but yet to no avail. I downloaded the Windows Update Troubleshooter and it fixed several problems but the one it wont fix is the Windows Update Error 0x80070057(2015-09-19-T-09_20_46A)

I have tried several solutions online:
1.) Tried to download the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) to fix the 0x80070057 error but it doesn't seem to install (it says failed under updates and it just sits there 'Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)...'). Checked the CheckSUR log which states the following:

=================================
Checking System Update Readiness.
Binary Version 6.1.7601.22471
Package Version 26.0
2015-09-19 07:15

Checking Windows Servicing Packages

Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs

Checking Package Watchlist

Checking Component Watchlist

Checking Packages

Checking Component Store

Summary:
Seconds executed: 1719
No errors detected

2.) Tried to manually reset Windows Update components but didn't seem to make a difference. I noticed when I tried to reregister the BITS files and the Windows Update files per the instructions that some off the files couldn't be found or loaded.

3.) Ran the sfc /scannow cmd but it didn't appear to have any issues.

These are just to name a few of the solutions I tried.

My goal is to be able to fix the error, install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 and get the Windows 10 App. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Widows 7 won't boot repair, says first back up data. command to overcome this?

I am attempting to boot my laptop (ASUS X501A) with a bootable USB with windows 7...

but it just says that I need to back up the data first then it aborts the boot operation.

Is there any way I can enter or edit the command before running the boot to make it just format memory before performing the boot?

or just make it boot regardless of the memory?

The laptop refused to connect to the internet, so I am just typing out the information on the boot so as to get more accurate advice I suppose.

I think I might have some corrupt system files. I've ran sfc /scannow multiple times and it stops at 61%. CBS log file says these errors at the end:

Can someone help? If it helps, I think my problem is similar to one posted before here. I'm not sure if I should proceed with the same steps.

Hi

My Windows Update is stuck on "Your w10 upgrade is ready for installing". I don't want to upgrade, but did reserve. Now I can't use Windows Update without installing W10 at the same time and I was wondering what I can do to stop this?

I tried uninstalling the KB3035583 in the installed updates section and it isn't showing up anymore, yet the problem remains.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Any and all help appreciated.

Any advice or suggestions will be highly appreciated

Error message: Task file is corrupt or has been tampered with.

Security update 2305420 from Microsoft carries a message with it that is might show this error message, and am now in a world of hurt because of it! I can't back up my computer because of the corrupted files it has caused. There are 43 of them. To do the "workaround" to fix it is so complicated I just don't know if I am willing to take on the monumental "task" right now. Is there an easier way?

I didn't know this update was on my computer. When I checked Update History, I can't find it in the installed updates. The 2010 Security Bulletin from Microsoft warning about the error message that
"you might get after installing this update" shows it was an old one for sure. I wasn't in the habit of installing updates myself. I always let Automatic Update do it for me. Anyway, I didn't even own this computer then. I bought it two years ago from Staples brand new--with the update already on it? I just don't know what's going on here.

Now, I want to back up my computer and it will not no matter how I try to do it. I tried to go to the File History in Task Scheduler and delete them, but they won't delete. I don't recognize any of them. I have made a copy of my registry, though, so I do have it backed up before I start doing anything. Can I fix it or should I really go to the computer shop for this?

EMET, and hangups

$

Two questions:

1. I downloaded the EMET program a while back and havn't knowingly used it. Is it worth using? Should I activate it?

2. A hangup problem has developed on my Gateway Media Center (Win 7) machine. It has odd characteristics. The computer boots fine, and will run any program I choose, for as long as I choose. But if I let the machine sit for 10 minutes. It locks up. The mouse continues to work but no programs will boot, including shutdown.

If I boot into Safe mode, the computer works fine, for as long as I want to use it. IOW, it does NOT hang. Makes me think it might be a driver problem, altho, contrary to popular belief, Safe mode does load a lot of drivers.

I ran ESET on it several times. First time it found 96 infected files, which it deleted. Second time, it found nothing.

My gut feeling is, it's not a virus, but rather, a driver gone bad. I'm not smart enough to figure it out for sure, which is why I'm here. Appreciate your help.

Problem with locked account.. help plz

I am not sure which topic I should post this in. So i just chose basic Windows topic. If its wrong, I apologize.
Anyways, I have a big issue. Im not sure I am going to explain it very well. But here goes...
My daughter has a PC with Vista on it. There are 2 user accounts, hers and her boyfriends. They are both administrators. Which since her boyfriend was also an admin, that meant that he could access here account and her files and whatever else, even if she had a password on it.. I assume that is correct..
So she wanted to lock some of her files up so that he could not access them. She downloaded some kind of folder locker application or something. So I guess one day she was in a hurry to get off the computer, and when she went onto the locker program, she just went to C drive, Windows, Users, then found her name, then locked it...
I guess that was a bad thing to do, because now when she tries to log onto the computer it says that there was an issue logging onto her account, and then it basically opens up a brand new user account, fresh and new.
I am assuming that since she locked the whole account, that may be the reason why she can not log onto it anymore??
When she downloaded the locker app, she installed it only onto her user account. So it does not show up in the programs folder on her boyfriends account. We looked...
Ok, so (1st issue is that she does not remember the exact name of the program). So there is no way to press some magic keys to bring it up and unlock the account...
Is there a way that we can get onto the computer, maybe thru safe mode or something, so that the account can be unlocked? or so that we can at least see what the name of the program was that she downloaded??
Sounds confusing...sorry.. writing an explanation is harder than just telling someone.. lol sorry
i appreciate any help

I've tried to uninstall the HP Support Solutions Framework, the HP Active Health Launcher and the HP Support Assistant Quickstart. These seem to be immovable objects. I don't know where they came from. All I have that is Hewlett Packard is my printer. Did they get a free ride in on that?

Can anyone tell me how to uninstall these? Thanks.
