"Active Partition not Found!" after enabling AHCI mode

$

Here's the situation: I'm using a new Lenovo L-A780 motherboard that was purchased used to replace an older motherboard that crapped out. Everything has been working great, but anytime I try to change the SATA configuration to AHCI mode, it doesn't work right - it hangs on a blinking cursor for about five minutes, then says "Active Partition not found!". I have not tried booting from any other media yet, (such as the CD drive) so I don't know at this point if the problem is with the boot drive, Windows, or the motherboard.

No, there is no blue screen or Windows errors that happen before this. Yes, I did doublecheck the "msahci" option in the Registry Editor.

Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 x64
Motherboard: Lenovo L-A780 (BIOS upgraded to the latest)
SATA Drives: Standard DVD burner, archival HDD, and Intel SSD (SSD is the boot drive)
SATA settings: Options include RAID, IDE, AHCI, and "Native" (currently using "native")

Any ideas?

Hello, I get randomly BSOD caused by "atikmpag.sys" during gaming or visiting some pages (like Facebook). I did an ATI driver fresh installation but that does no changes. I can give you a log using BlueScreenView, is my videocard about to die? (Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 7870 XT; Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit; Asrock H77 PRO4-MVP).

Thank you.

Do I have a problem or not?

I'll start brief, if you need more, say so.

Win7 Home Premium

Deleted KB3035583 from installed updates.

It was a day or two before I rebooted -- long story.

When I did a little while ago, I got the Preparing to configure screen, but it froze with the spinning circle. No progression of percentage, etc. Stayed like that for 15-20 minutes.

Finally got up the guts to shut it down manually by holding the power button.

On restart, I got the black screen 'Windows did not shut down successfully ......."

Let it select and start normally.

Saw something about step 121/121, don't remember exactly now, then the Configuring screen that counted up from 35% to 100%.

Finally came up to the desktop and all appeared normal.

Did another shutdown (just because) which worked normally. Restart also worked normally.

Win10 Nag Icon is gone from the TaskBar

Am I good?

Is there anything else I need to check?

I've never had one hang in the configuring screen to where I've had to force a shutdown and it spooked me.

Need help urgently, startup repair

Hello,

As of this evening my laptop (MSI GT70) is no longer starting up. It starts the StartUp Repair, which apparantly cannot help me. The problem seems to be in a file called RapportHades64.sys.

This morning the machine worked perfectly fine, I shut it down, removed the battery because I went on an airplane (laptop in luggage, battery with me). Now, it doesn't work at all, and I really need it. I have no trustworthy computershops around me, nor do I have access to anything but my phone for internet

Any help :s?

Thanks in advance

Computer powers on but no display.

So here is what I've done/been through so far.

The other day the Computer wouldn't power on. I tested the psu with a power supply testing tool, everything is fine with the psu. I unplugged everything and did an isolation test, it wouldn't even power on with just the motherboard + cpu and heatsink + 1 stick of ram and a monitor cable. Wouldn't even power on. No fans spinning at all. I came to the conclusion that it was the motherboard which was the problem. I ordered a new motherboard and I've installed that. The computers turns on during an isolation test from no unnecessary stuff plugged into the motherboard and with everything it usually has attached (gpu, another stick of ram, pci card etc. It powers on, fans spin but nothing is displayed on the monitor.

I have a feeling it might be a damaged cpu because when I tried to remove the heatsink from the OLD motherboard the CPU was removed with the heatsink because it was STUCK onto the heatsink. At this point in time the cpu + heatsink are stuck together and are completely off the old motherboard. To put it into the new motherboard I need to unstick the CPU. I did some search and used this guide (How to Remove a Processor Fused to a Heatsink: 7 Steps) which said to use 99% alcohol and dental floss to remove it from the heatsink.

At first nothing was happening and I couldn't even get the dental floss inbetween the CPU and the heatsink so I did more research and I read that soaking the CPU in 99% alcohol would help. I did not have enough 99% alcohol to do this (it's regulated in Australia so can only buy 100ml bottles) so I put some alcohol in a small plastic spray bottle and I sprayed it all around the edges where the heatsink and the CPU meet. After a few mins of spraying, twisting (carefully at that) and using dental floss (I accidentally bent a pin while using the dental floss but I managed to bend the pin BACK) it finally came unstuck.

Finally, I inserted the CPU into the NEW motherboard and secured the heat sink on top. I did an isolation test and slowly put all the components in as it POWERED ON. Keep in mind not once did it display anything on the monitor (not even POST). I have tried both a vga and dvi cables (the monitor is 110% working also). I am currently at a loss of what is wrong with it, I have a feeling it's the CPU but I want to figure out a way to be sure it is the CPU before I buy a new one (they are expensive).

The CPU I am using is an AMD A10-6800k and an ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ motherboard. The graphics card is a AMD Radeon R9 290 and the PSU is a SilverStone 500W SST-ST50F-ES.

The power supply is fine as I have tested it using a power supply testing tool.

Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Computer ran perfectly fine until i decided to buy this new PC Case. After Transferring the components into the new Case the PC will crash / lock up at random times. mostly while doing non demanding stuff like watching movies or Netflix. during the lockup the screen displays green horizontal lines and a loud buzzing noise can be heard from the speakers. Hard reset is required at this point. This probably happens about once or twice a day now and i am running out of ideas of what to try and correct this.

Actions taken so far - Re-seated GPU, Re-seated Ram, Re-seated CPU, Tested Ram 1 stick at a time - passed, used DDU to uninstall GPU drivers, did a fresh install of GPU drivers, Fresh install of windows.

Windows is updated to current, drivers are all up to date for the GPU and i even did a bios update for my motherboard.

Event viewer shows this for the crash.

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41
Level: Critical
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I'm not sure if i accidentally hit any switches while moving the motherboard but i've noticed 2 switches. TPU set to off, and EPU set to on? Not sure what TPU does but i think EPU is some kind of power saving option. Should i turn that off? is there any other power settings that i should know about that could cause these stability issues?

Folder Directory Recovery

$

Hello, first time poster
I have a Samsung Ultrabook running windows 7 with a 1TB Seagate external HDD which contains every single information and media whereas I only install programs on the laptop itself due to its low 128GB SSD. One day I decided to plug my external HDD to my tv directly through usb to watch a movie, while accessing a specified folder, the tv froze and couldn’t do anything else, so I unplug the HDD and restart the tv and no longer watched the movie. The next day I plug the external HDD to my laptop and one of the folders is showing a blank page icon with 0 bytes of data and it’s type is File and when double clicked, prompts to choose a program to open this file. All other files and folders are intact but realized they all have a file in them called “desktop.ini” and all my songs show their album art picture next to it.
Extra piece of information to know is that my external HDD is partitioned into A, B, C. and every partition has a list of folders with subfolders in them. So the folder that is showing a blank icon is in partition A and is also the partition that has the “desktop.ini” in every folder.
Now I am very sure that the files inside the blank icon folder are still there because the remaining space on that partition is still the same and a recovery software is still showing them but under a different hidden folder name with all the original sub-folder names. It is showing them under directory: A:\found.000\dir0000.chk\Original Subfolder name\, where “found.000\dir0000.chk” is the directory I don’t know. And the recovery software “Piriform Recuva” is showing them as Not Deleted, so I can’t recover them. So I think that just the folder’s directory is corrupted.
I have tried and delete IconCache from AppData – Local and restart computer thinking it was an icon issue but didn’t work.
Now the main reason I said all these is if someone can help me in recovering that folder and be able to access it as its content are important.
Thank for your help in advance and appreciate it.

Creating System Image From One Computer To Another? Help

Dumb question. I have two identical Lenovo Laptops which came with windows 8 and I upgraded them to 8.1. I use both and have them pretty much identical. They are the EXACT same laptops I got on sale 2 years ago.

This is not about windows 7 but there was no windows 8 or 8.1 option to post in.

My question is this: One of my Lenovo laptops is running much slower than the other one. Can I create a system image from the one that is running good, and then use that system image to restore the "OTHER" computer? I know how to create a system image, which I have done on the laptop that is running well, I just do not know if this is possible. I do have the microsoft product key for the laptop that is hopefully going to be restored.

thanks

Trying to obtain this for a repair on an Acer All in One machine

Tried it form an official Microsoft Site and typed in the product key and it says "You must obtain the disks from your equipment manufacturer" or words to that effect

That would cost 20-40 uk pounds

There were downloads from digital river, but I can't find that anymore

Any other places ?

Thanks

Internet Browsers

Hi,
Suddenly Google Chrome started to freeze so tried a few things to see if I could find the cause. It was much worse when I loaded up more than 4 pages and always froze when I got to 6 or above. I tried uninstalling and reinstall to no effect then contacted Chrome but to date haven't had a response.
I then tried Firefox which is much better but it also freezes above 6 open pages which makes me wonder if there's an issue with memory. Do the browsers use a memory cache or something similar. This problem only started about 2 weeks ago but it's so annoying.
I'm running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit SP1, 8GB ram.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Dave

[SOLVED] Re-Size A Desktop Widget?

I use a widget called Weather Meter, but the text is far too small to be seen easily.

Screen resolution is 1600 x 900 which is native and recommended for my screen.

I'd like to be able to enlarge the widget if possible. There is nothing in the associated settings for that.

Good Morning everyone, I kindly ask the following information:

I installed Windows 7 , use ZoneAlarm firewall ( Windows firewall disabled ) and AVG antivirus . From Control Panel - > Network Connections Center - > Change sharing options , I disabled Detection Network and disabled File and Printer Sharing. But, my problem, is that every time I restart the computer the two options are enabled back.
Can I disable permanently this settings? Thank you!

SONY VAIO Windows7 won't boot into windows

Hi,

I have a VAIO laptop that froze a few days ago during internet browsing and not won't boot up into windows.

I have tried the startup repair with no success. I read another thread where someone was having a similar problem and it turned out to be avast anti virus. I don't run avast - I do however have AVG and have heard that can also be a problem.

I can get into the command prompt by using the Windows DVD to boot or also by going through the repair menu. I have run a chkdsk /r /x and also chkdsk /f /x but neither resolved my issue.

I have seen some awesome advice on the threads here and hoping someone can walk me through some diagnostics to hopefully get this resolved.

Thanks very much!

Right click (context menu) bye bye...

Hello everyone (or anyone),
First, I have searched the forum, this forum specifically before I asked just in case so as not to waste time.

I have a strange problem where whenever I click with my right mouse click, nothing happens. The menu that normally pops up takes an ETERNITY to open up. I mean as in 30 sec.'s to 1+ minutes after I click the right mouse button before the menu shows up

The mouse is a Logitech m305 mouse and the system is a Win 7 Ultimate edition if that helps any, and am pretty sure SP 1 is installed too.

It has just been an extreme pain. Who knew life without the right click context menu would be so terrible in the Windows world

Any help would be extremely welcomed!

Wireless network adapter driver issue

Recently the usb wifi lan card stopped working.

The card has been installed properly and shows up in the device manager as well as network connections.

It is enabled but I still get the Red Cross mark in the task bar icon for internet connections.

I am unable to connect to any wifi network and get the "Not connected no connections available" message

On troubleshooting I get the message "the wireless network adapter is experiencing problems"

The same adapter is working fine in the other Windows installation on the same computer.

mouse/keyboard don't work on reaching Win7Pro desktop

Hello,

I've been trying to figure out how to get my mouse and keyboard working against once I reach my Win7Pro desktop. I uninstalled AMD Catalyst Center a few weeks ago since I don't game, but since then, my mouse and keyboard don't work at all when I reach my desktop.

I can get into my BIOS, but no attempts to recover or repair have worked. I've tried to reinstall Win7Pro and 8.1 and 10, but that has failed, too.

Booting straight from a flashdrive just doesn't happen. I have an Xi3 X7A computer module, and that company doesn't even reply to my requests for help. I just can't get anything going on my desktop where everything is intact, with a functioning mouse and keyboard.

VLC Graphical Issue

Let me start off by saying this post probably isn't in the correct section of the website, but I didn't really see a spot for VLC or media player related issues. For the longest time, once in a while (when playing movies or shows) VLC will do this graphical weirdness and I've never been able to find an answer for it. It happens maybe once every 15 or 20min. I've done countless tests for my graphics card and it's fine. This only happens in VLC, no other media player. Games, music, literally everything else is exempt from this issue. Does anyone know why this happens?
