Help! Cannot boot Windows 7!

$

So recently, I turned on my PC and would get stuck at the Windows 7 startup screen where it shows the logo form. Well, today I started it up and it would actually take a bit longer for the logo to come up. Now my situation is, whenever I start my PC, it goes to "Windows is loading files..." at the bottom and it takes me straight to Startup Repair. Startup Repair proceeds to say it cannot repair the PC automatically. Pressing F8 upon startup lets me select a boot device. If I select my hard drive and keep pressing F8 it will take me straight to startup repair and that will fail again. I can get to "Advanced Options for system and recovery support" and I do have access to the Command Prompt. Any help is appreciated. I have not installed and software very recently either.

CPU Usage never goes below 24% nothing running

Been trying to figure this out for a while now.

I cleaned up everything I know I could and at times before i have been able to see the CPU usage down to 1% when nothing is running.

When I look at task manager there is no process using any CPU but the total says 25%

Anything to look at?

Cannot convert dynamic volumes to basic

I was in the process of using Disk Management to create a partition from unallocated space. When the process was complete, I discovered that the new partition, and all of the others as well, were dynamic. A genie did this. I have no idea how it happened. I didn't even know what a dynamic disk was.

I did some research and could not see any benefit to having a dynamic disk. And the only way to get back to basic is to delete all of the volumes on the disk after backing up the contents. Fortunately, I already had all the contents backed up.

However, there is one little glitch. There was one little partition on the primary drive of this recently acquired (refurbished) machine that was only 2 gb which, when you right click on it, the open and explore options are greyed out. I was told this partition contained boot information. When you choose the "delete volume" option, you get "windows cannot delete this partition."

In troubleshooting the problem, I lost the ability the boot into Windows. Although I was able to repair the system using a purchased copy of Easy RE, that created a return to the factory system. When I looked into Disk Management, not only was that 2 gb partition still there but it was still dynamic, causing all other partitions to be dynamic.

I thought I might be able to live with dynamic, but when I tried to create a new partition the installation disk wouldn't let me.

One thing that worries me is: What effect will it have if I succeed in getting rid of the 2 gb partition?

How can I get out of this mess?

Windows restore no longer finds Windows Image backup files.

If I boot the Windows 7 emergency recovery DVD it no longer finds any Windows image backups on my USB drive. I have tried it on 2 different Windows 7 PC's. I can however see the backups in the \WindowsImageBackup directory while booted from the DVD and going to the DOS prompt. The kicker is that I used these backup images before to replace hard drives on both systems. I do not know what changed. The search on the PC for the images takes only a couple seconds before failing. I have tried changing permissions and ownership on the files without success. Got any ideas?

New Computer - No Ethernet or Wifi?

Recently got a computer (Dell Latitude E6420) with no OS. Installed Windows 7, 64 bit system.

After that, had no drivers for wifi/etc so I installed ALL of the drivers from this page -http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/74985r1/drivers/advanced?s=bsd

Wifi is discovering my network - but not connecting when I connect. Even copied the network login stuff via USB to make sure.

Have been trying several different ways to fix this - reinstalled all the drivers, checked modem/router (work fine on this computer), plugged in Ethernet directly (doesn't work), made sure automatically establish IP was checked, etc.

I've lost a basic function ...

... but I don't know what it's called to search out a solution.

When I plug a USB device in, Windows Explorer used to pop up to browse those files, or at least a dialog box asking me what I wanted to do. That no longer happens. I have to manually open an explorer window from the taskbar icon.

This appears to have happened after the last Windows Update I did a week or so ago.

It's not a critical function, but not having it is annoying.

Setting up an SSD

Hi everybody:

I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H Motherboard, with AMI EFI BIOS----F9 version. I'm thinking about building another computer System. One of my concerns is about what I read through my research. A good number of web pages state that I should make sure that my BIOS indicates it is in AHCI mode. The other concern is the danger of switching from IDE mode to AHCI mode.....something about the possibility of my computer failing to boot up. The reason for this concern is.....I'm strongly considering installing an SSD as the boot drive. My current OS is Windows 7 Pro / 32-bit. On the new build, I'm not sure whether to stay with Windows 7 or upgrade. By the way......I'm just using my current Motherboard as an example. Any advice ?
Thanks,

Outsmart Windows?

I got my first computer about 9 years, ago. It wasn't long after that, I saw the need for external hard drives for storage and backup. Since that time, I have had one external drive request formatting three times. I had another external drive to request formatting, once.

In all four instances, there was no apparent reason for the formatting request. I did not format either time. Instead, I chose to use recovery software to salvage my data. In each case, I was able to retrieve all or nearly all of the data. The data was intact and undamaged.

The recovery data software replaces the names of the files with numbers. It takes me months to rename and re categorize these files.

My question is: If the drive is undamaged and the files it contains are intact and undamaged, is there some means by which I can 'see' the files? The recovery software sees these files. It would seem that in cases such as mine, that I should be able to somehow, access the data pretty much as the recovery software does. In other words, my drive and all my data are fine. It's just that through some quirk, Windows thinks the drive is empty and wants me to format it.

The recovery software gets past this hurdle. I don't see why I couldn't do the same if I knew how the software does it, and yes, if I was smart enough to use the method. It sure would save me many weeks of work.

I'm thinking that maybe in the near future, recovery software programs might include diagnostics to first determine if the data is intact and undamaged, and if it is, a method for simply accessing the data. In effect, just bypassing Windows false assumption that the drive is empty.

There, I said it. I've shown my ignorance and lack of computer savvy. Why is what I'm thinking is feasible, not feasible?

Windows 7 on newer tablets?

Hey
I got this Asus transformer book t100 chi a month back.
It came with win 8.1, i tried that for a bit then upgraded to windows 10.
I consider myself a power user and want full control over my tech and internet usage, so not even in my nightmares do i think about anything else than win 7 on my desktop computer. And trying both 8.1 and 10 doesnt change my mind. Win 10 got some big and minor issues and is less responsive and userfriendly for me than 8.1 so im probably downgrading anyway.

My question then is:
Is it possible to install win 7 on this tablet formfactor computer without major issues?
What do i need to research to find out if its possible?
I read somewhere that there is bad touch support on win 7 in comparison to the newer versions, but cant seem to find it again.
The driver download page at Asus' website is only for 8.1 and 10, as this is the minimum its delivered with.

Asus t100 chi:
Intel Atom Z3775 1,46GHz
2GB RAM
32 bit OS, 64x based processor
Keyboard connected by bluetooth
1920x1200 screen

My main concerns:
Driver support
Touch support
Battery life
Is win 7 heavier to run as its not made for tablets and phones as the others?

Where do I find specific instructions for repairing a damaged file system with TestDisk? It may not work, but I sure want to give it a try. All the articles I've read mention such a repair, but don't give instructions. The closest I've found is a link to repairing the file system in a HD image.

Hi.

Here are the specs of my laptop's OS :

The problem is, basically I can't run more than two applications at once, the physical memory gets too high, I don't know if it's a virus or what, but I can't even watch a movie, or use skype, without the laptop getting hanged or stuck for 2-5 minutes , and even more at times.
Everything is so slow, the laptop makes noise, and get's extremely hot, and this is very irritating.

Good evening, gang! S/P crash of Win 7 and reinstall, I am getting an error message in re: to " MS teredo Tunneling Adapter". It has a yellow caution flag, but when I try to update its driver, I am told it is already updated. However, I cannot get to my wireless printer so I know it isn't working. I would like to get it fixed, so I can print out instructions to allow me to dual boot Win 7 and 10. So- Any ideas? Or are these two issues totally unrelated?

High CPU usage and memory usage

So I've been dealing with high CPU usage and physical memory usage for a while now and was wondering if anyone could help. I've been looking at windows task manager and I think I've found the culprit. I rebooted my computer just to make sure and I believe its one of the 12 svchost.exe processes running on my computer. When the computer rebooted it was fine but then after some minutes that process shot up to as much as 1,000,000k in physical memory usage right now its around 705,148k. I assume that there is my problem but I am not exactly sure so I was wondering if anyone here could help me out. Thanks.

Laptop clicking and smoking???

Hi, so I have an approximately 3-year-old laptop which has never had any problems before. I was using it earlier today when I turned it a certain way and suddenly it made a noise very similar to this:
and it seriously looked like there was smoke coming out of the area between the screen and keyboard (fan? Sorry, I know nothing about computers). I freaked out and shut it down and left it for like two hours. Then I tried to clean the fan with a little vacuum thing as other forums recommended, opened it again and everything seemed fine for about five minutes, until that clicking noise and smoke started again! What do I do and how much will it cost to repair? This is the absolute worst time for my laptop to be having problems, please say it is an easy fix :S
