How to start HTTP ?

0
0
In an 'old' Win7 Ultimate (32bit) AND in a Win10-upgrade from my 'current' Win7, my Brother HL2040 Laser Printer still works well, but in a fully updated and enhanced version of the same O/S (my current system), the driver is no longer seen. The Print Spooler wont start, and it blames that on its dependencies not starting. The dependencies are RPC service (which IS started) and HTTP. I need help (I think) to get HTTP started, so that the Print Spooler will start and the printer driver gets recognised. Can you help me ?

Problem using sync with cloud storage

0
0
Some years ago I began using cloud storage as an additional back up measure for my many irreplaceable files. In the process I have occasionally lost some valued files and believe it was due to the way sync works. When I try to find a thorough explanation on the internet I come up empty.

I did recently learn that there are two types of sync, "one way" (target to source) and "two way" a/k/a "mirror" (source to target as well as target to source).

As I understand it, if you are using "one way" and for some reason the magic folder on your computer is empty (maybe it was moved) , AND the "source" is the folder on your computer, then you will lose all the files on the cloud (except for trash). If you are using "mirror" this would not happen.

The problem is this. It seems impossible to say in the case of any particular cloud whether syncing is one way or mirror and, if one way, which side is the target and which side is the source. Not knowing that makes it difficult to avoid losing files. I have starting to disable syncing for that reason but that has undesirable results, too.

mouse is freezing, eventually crash

Hi Friends,
I was referred here from Spyware Warrior forum, where I first went for help. But my system checks out clean.

Windows 7, 64-bit, sp1
Dell Studio 15 (can list all the specs, just tell me which)
Cirque/Glidepoint usb (external touchpad mouse)

On March 6, I suddenly started having trouble with my external mouse. I've used this kind of mouse for 98% of my history using personal computers (starting with Win95). And this particular mouse can't be more than 2 years old....somewhere between 1 and 2 years.

The mouse started freezing up, and moving very slow. At first, I could wait a second or 2 and it would start working again. But progressively the wait was longer and longer -- up to a minute or 2. And then my entire system crashed -- screen went black, and system restarted.

Hoping it was just an odd glitch, I resumed my usual activity. But the next day (technically it was 2 days later, but it was the next time I used my computer after the first crash) I had the same experience. Mouse very slow, freezing up, for longer and longer, and more and more frequent, and then without warning -- crash!

I've saved the info from both crashes, but don't know exactly what you might need. So just let me know, and I'll provide it.

During the time I was troubleshooting at SW, the mouse froze up completely, and I had to disable it. I uninstalled its software, and switched over to the built-in mouse (which is absolutely horrible, and part of the reason I use the external mouse in the first place).

Since I've been using the built-in mouse, I have not noticed those problems. But as I've said, it's SO slooooww, and lacks shortcut features. And it's awkward to use it. So I hope I can fix the problem with my usual mouse.

Also during troubleshooting at SW, I got the idea that maybe the problem was with the mouse's software. So I reinstalled its software from its original disc. And just to cover all the bases, I switched out that mouse for an older one that I keep around, in case of some emergency like this. But immediately it started freezing up. So I uninstalled and switched back.

Is this something you might be able to help me fix? Or if not, can you tell me where I might be able to go for help?

(Afaik, Cirque no longer sells or manufactures this mouse, otherwise I'd contact them.) (Also, I'm posting on your Windows 7 board, instead of the Other Hardware board for mice, because of the system crash, it seems like a system problem, rather than only a mouse problem. But of course, please feel free to move this topic, if it should belong somewhere else.)

Thank you very much

PS - I could also say that during the time when the mouse was slow and freezing up, I tried looking at the Task Manager, to find out if I could identify where the problem might be. But starting with Win7, the Task Manager doesn't really provide much info (I can hear the fan running, and I know something is working or running, but the TM doesn't say what it is. TM was much more helpful in Win XP (imo).

What suddenly happened to Windows 7 updates? Seems that ever since Microsoft came out with Windows 10 it takes 6 to 10 hours to get all the Windows 7 updates for a fresh install. Is this another attempt to get everyone to upgrade to Windows 10?

How to prevent upgrade to windows 10?

I'm given 2 options, upgrade now or schedule for later. How do I stop it from installing windows 10? It doesn't allow me to reject it. screenshot attached below.

Woke up to a black screen -- No bootable device ...

Everything running normally (I thought), Media Player running a playlist of music. Fell asleep.

Woke up to no music. Looked at screen --- black screen as if it had rebooted to BIOS, but with 'No Bootable device, press any key' (or whatever the exact wording is). Pressed a key, same thing came back up.

** Note, this is a brand new WD drive after the original HDD crashed and burned a couple of weeks ago. That thread is here if you need it.

Did a hard power off and on. Booted to Windows 7 desktop normally. Everything seems to be working.

Event Viewer shows these right after the restart:

Quote:

LMS Service cannot connect to Intel(R) MEI driver

---------------------

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

-------------------------------------

Error loading Symantec real time Anti-Virus driver.

------------------------

Error loading virus definitions.

-------------------------------------

The previous system shutdown at 2:50:51 AM on ‎3/‎12/‎2016 was unexpected.
I use MSE, not Norton. Does MSE use a Symantec driver? MSE shows Updated and 'green'.

No indication what caused the shutdown or the boot error notices.

My PC just went crazy.

I usually leave my PC on but do a reboot every few days to freshen things up. Yesterday I was noticing a slow down and decided to reboot but out of nowhere I get a blue screen that said "STOP: c0000218 registry file failure. The registry cannot load the hive (file) ... it's corrupt, absent or not writable...".
The only way I could get out of that wast to do a hard reboot. I start it up the second time and was prompted to do some kind of a check which I did ( I did a check disk too which took more than 3 hours). PC started after that but then IE stopped working (it closes after like 1/10 of a second). Then noticed the Windows Features box was blank. Tried to download some updates but they'd take forever and most would fail to download or install. Tried to uninstall and re-install IE (11) but kept getting "installation couldn't continue because there's a newer version of IE installed on this PC" or something like that. Tried a SFC /scannow but that didn't do nothing. Also downloaded "system update readiness tool" but didn't do nothing.

I don't know what the hell happened all of a sudden. Never had any serious problems with this PC before. I think me uninstalling some of the updates (telemetry and other crap "updates" ) a couple of weeks back has something to do with this.
I did some reading online and it looks like the only way is a repair install of Win7, or even maybe a fresh install. Are these really my only options? Curious to know why this happened if any one knows.

OS: Win 7 Home.

Thanks.

Acer TravelMate P453-M Bluetooth connection error

Hi,

I can't get my Acer Travelmate to connect to any bluetooth devices, even though it shows that the device is working properly. No connection at all to phones, printer, speakers what so ever.

I've downloaded drivers from the Acer site, removed any other devices from the vicinity, ran Driver Booster 3.0, but NADA.

Please help!

Computer B has permissons for computer A, but not vice-versa

I've networked two Win 7 computers, A (tower desktop) and B (laptop). From B, I can create new folders and do anything I want on A, But on A I can't create new folders on B ("You need permission to perform this action"). This is preventing some needed software from running correctly.

- From A looking at properties on B, and also on B looking at properties on A, Advanced Security Settings/Permissions shows all users having "Full control".

- The Owner user is also included as a user in Advanced Security Settings/Permissions for both A looking at properties on B and B looking at properties on A.

You can probably tell that I'm far from expert at networking.

Any ideas for me to try?

Access temporary locking file

The temporary locking file (.laccdb in Access 2007 and .ldb in all prior versions) that is created when a user is "in" an Access database, contains info on sharing the database.
I'm wondering if it is possible to read this temporary file if it contains perhaps, the user or machines names (or any useful info) that are currently in the database. My goal is to find out what machines/users are currently "in" my database and display this on my application dashboard.
I know that I could code all of this into a table, etc. etc. but am hoping this file might already contain that data. Any ideas?

95% Physical memory usage during games

Heyo,

So I'm running:
i7-4790k
GTX 970
8GB RAM

Running on Windows 7.
So I with new games I'm running and I'm having to tone down the graphics quite a bit. Auto detect settings puts it to high and ultra settings but that tanks the hell out of my system.
I bought the Division and found that it moves more like a slideshow on Medium than the High/Ultra it wants me to run on.
95% physical memory usage, nothing up or down during the game and the i7 runs like a breeze, no high percentages there.

So I'm just asking for help :(
I've scanned for malware and cleared out anything that's unwanted. I only recently upgraded to the i7 so I'm only just off a clean install.

I'd really appreciate anything at all!

Icon Problems

Hello again,

Tried to change a desktop icon.

Seemed to work to a degree until suddenly all the desktop icons were apparently changed to the generic icon except for Computer, Recycle Bin,
Control Panel. Taskbar icons stayed as they were.

A batch file obtained on the Net, which was supposed to rebuild the icon cache was ineffective, as was the utility Save/Restore Desktop.

Now the original desktop icons are all there, except that they are overlaid with the generic icon. Changing an icon, deleting a shortcut and reinstalling it all end up with the generic icon overlay.

It happened before and I had recourse to installing an HDD image made the previous week, which even after only 7 days needed some work to bring up to
date.

Any ideas as to cause and how to repair without reinstalling ?

Regards,

Cheemag

Trouble loading Win7 on external HD

0
0
Yesterday a power outage destroyed my desktop's ability to boot. The power went out but came back on a minute later while I was checking the circuit breaker, and when I went back to my computer it had already begun running a repair utility due to an improper shutdown - but then the power went out again while it was halfway through that and it can no longer boot up.

My windows 7 dvd can't repair my installation on my desktop because it has service packs while the disk is the original windows 7, and I don't want to install a fresh windows without first retrieving what saved files I hadn't yet backed up. As such, I'm trying to use my laptop to install windows onto my external hard drive so that I can attempt to boot my desktop from it and transfer the files off the internal HD before reinstalling windows.

I'm having difficulty making it work, though. I followed this guide: How To Install Windows 7 On USB Flash Drive or External Hard Drive

At first I mistakenly attempted to perform the installation without converting my drive from MBR format to GPT format, but have since made that
conversion and attempted it again. I get an error message that the installation cannot proceed because the drive doesn't have a boot path supported by the BIOS. The same message accompanied the error telling be MBR wouldn't work and I had already gone into the bios and created a boot path for F:) drive. Formatting the drive to convert to GPT erased this boot path, and I thought setting it up again would be the same as it was before. However, when I access the F:) drive through the BIOS, this time the windows folder is nowhere to be found. I've booted up and checked the disk through the windows explorer and there is definitely a windows folder with a boot subfolder on the drive, yet when I access the directory through the BIOS it shows every folder BUT the windows folder. What's causing this? How can I get my computer to actually perform the Win7 installation?

(Although, if there's a decent way to fix corrupted boot up files without trying to run my computer off an external HD I'd be just as happy getting that solution instead)

Winrar says that the CRC is wrong

Hi,
I have a rar of which winrar says that the CRC is wrong, and the file is corrupted.
It is a huge videofile however, so I don't really care if there's a small part in it which isn't good.
I already tried to "keep broken files" when I extract, and I already tried to repair the file.
It doesn't works.
What can I do to extract the (corrupted) data anyway??

Thanks in advance.

Please help, my computer is driving me insane.

Firstly I know very little about computers, but usually I can make do with suggestions from Google.
Now onto my problems.

- Online games keep minimizing every several minutes, have no idea how to fix that but google tells me that it has something to do with a process going on in the background....I want it to stop doing it.
-Having trouble opening up a few applications, League of Legends refuses to open up to the login page....unless I open and close it 20 or so times. -_-
Google suggested I repair the game (did it), Uninstall and then Reinstall (did it), disable any active firewalls (did it), delete specific files within the program and repair them (did it). Nothing is working. This was a sudden occurrence,it was working find until recently.
The other application that I notice won't open up is Plantronics Rig500 Audio Panel.

Please help me. I'm begging you.

Help troubleshooting a freeze

0

My work development laptop has a problem with freezing, and it is noticeably related to unplugging from all my desk wired connections to pick my laptop up and go somewhere. So, normally, power, ethernet, some USB devices, and VGA monitor are all plugged in. Recently when I unplug everything I will noticed within a minute later I'll find the computer has totally frozen.

The laptop display still shows whatever was up, it doesn't go black or blue screen. It is just that the keys and mouse do nothing. Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. Other Fn keys do nothing, and plugging it back in does not result in it being responsive.

I always have to power off and on to get it working again. So I'm looking for some ideas for logs I can look at or other steps I can take to troubleshoot why this is happening and fix it. Thanks for any ideas!
