Windows 7 Executable Permissions Issue

$

Recently I noticed that .exe files were not running when told to, simply doing nothing when double-clicked or right click > Run or Open was selected.
Investigating the issue, I found the 'Windows has blocked this, click to unblock' button, but to no avail - after doing so the files instead throw up the 'Windows cannot access the specified path' error message when I attempt to run them.

Hours of trying to find a solution to this have left me empty-handed and on the verge of murdering someone, I'm so frustrated. I have already checked the Security tab for the .exe in question (currently it is the setup program for Steam, since that was refusing to start up and getting stuck in an endless update loop, hence why I uninstalled it in the first place) and all users are considered to have Full Control over the file, so it isn't that. 'Running as Administrator', both directly from the context menu and from the 'Compatibility' tab in Properties, produced the same error message.

I tried running the file in Safe Mode, and that works, suggesting that the problem is not really one of permissions, but there I hit a brick wall.

Following instructions to modify the registry in order to 'fix' .exe problems led only to creating different ones (such as trying to open the right-click context menu causing explorer to crash) so I was forced to undo them, and a self-touted 'Exe Fix' .reg file refused to be imported to RegEdit regardless of the method I tried, claiming that 'some of the keys are open or in use'

Searching online has proven completely fruitless beyond this, and I am at the end of my tether. All I wanted to do was play some Steam games, and instead I find my computer apparently rebelling against me and trying to tell me what I can and cannot do with my own files, despite all logic pointing to the contrary (the aforementioned full control permissions). Nothing is quite as infuriating, and I'm about ready to cause serious property damage in sheer frustration.

Help me avoid that eventuality, please!

Malwarebytes is doing :Website Blocked

Domain: wmi.mykings.top
gives an IP address and Port
Type: Outbound
Files: C:\Windows\System32\wbem\scrcons.exe

This happens several times a week and when it happens Malwarebytes blocks it three times in a short interval.

I use Panda Antivirus Pro and Malwarebytes latest version real time scanning.

When I run both of the about to look at ALL the files on my computer it does not come up with any problem.

Question: Why can't either one of these paid for programs get rid of this need to block this Domain?

Anyone? Help will be appreciated.

A greeting to everyone and I apologize but I use the translator, so I hope that the help I ask is clear to you.
I had to format and replace the hard disk of my notebook, and when I reinstalled the various software I used, I also installed Wamp because I was making a site with Prestashop.
Now after installing Wamp I will not open the LOCALHOST again and the browser 's' tab' runs continuously.
I do not have skype, port 80 is free and my S.O. is windows7 64bit.
I hope to find someone to help me because, until now, I did not find it in Italy.:banghead:

Thank you,

Lino

Often when I come into work in the morning, my computer screen has small black lines on the screen (see image) and my computer begins to run VERY slow. Slow to the point that I have to shut it down and restart my computer. What could the problem/solution be?

Windows Active Setup - script to edit file not running/working

Have the following batch file:
Code:

cscript Myvb.vbs "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\file.ini" "Things" "Stuff"
vb script file:
Code:

 Const ForReading = 1
Const ForWriting = 2
 strFileName = WScript.Arguments(0)
strFindText = WScript.Arguments(1)
strNewText = WScript.Arguments(1) & vbCrLf & WScript.Arguments(2)
 Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strFileName, ForReading)
 strText = objFile.ReadAll
objFile.Close
strNewText = Replace(strText, strFindText, stfFindText&strNewText)
 Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strFileName, ForWriting)
objFile.Write strNewText
objFile.Close
 Set objFile = Nothing

and batch file to set ActiveSetup:
Code:

 @echo off
 REM copy batch file
xcopy Mybat.bat* %SYSTEMROOT%\
xcopy Myvb.vbs* %SYSTEMROOT%\
REM create active setup component to run batch file
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\MySetup" /v "Version" /t REG_SZ /d "1" /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\MySetup" /v "StubPath" /t REG_SZ /d "%SYSTEMROOT%\Mybat.bat" /f

If mybat.bat is executed manually, the file is edited fine. However, the file does not change after logging in. I undid the changes to the file and cleared the active setup registry entry in my profile between my tests. Is there a permissions issue I am missing? Is %username% coming out to be not what I expect it to?

ntdll.dll crashes random programs

$

Hello,

About a month or two ago, Windows Photo Viewer stopped working. Last night, a program I use for my work (MemoQ) started crashing on startup.
Event Viewer shows:
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.23864

for both, and I'm sure there are some other odd programs facing this problem (explorer.exe loves crashing randomly).
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
- Installing all Windows updates didn't help
- Running sfc /scannow found nothing
- Running a disk Error-checking didn't help
- Turning off all startup items and services on msconfig didn't help
- Ran malware scan, didn't help
- net user administrator /active:yes + logging in as Administrator didn't help
- Device manager says both Intel and AMD drivers are up to date
- I was able to run MemoQ on Safe mode and on Win 7 compatibility mode
- Somewhere around June I spilled some water on my computer, which put it out of commission. However a short trip to the lab got it up and running again. I do not think the Photo Viewer issue started right after it.

Would appreciate any help barring OS reinstallation.

EDIT: Disabling AMD display driver solved the problem. Still, it's said to be up to date, so I really don't know what a possible solution is.

Cannot load one particular website

Dell Latitude E5530, running Windows 7 Professional, service pack 1.

This laptop is working fine in all respects, including internet access. However there is one website that will not load for me: oxfordanalytics.org. I get the error message (in Chrome):
"This site can’t be reached
oxfordanalytics.org took too long to respond.
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT"

- the website is fully operational (I have checked via other computers and via the site manager)
- it pings ok from my machine
- this is not a browser problem as I cannot access it on any of Chrome, Firefox, or IE
- this is not an ISP problem as I cannot access it via multiple ISPs

I have tried:
- resetting my router
- flushing DNS cache
- resetting browsers

I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what the problem might be, and how I might fix it.

Mouse not recognized after boot scan cancel

I received a malware alert about 2 files from my avast anti-virus, it recommended that I press OK to delete them, I did, and then it said something about a " boot scan " and I pressed OK, my system started to restart ( I realized what a boot scan was, haha :D ) then instead of the usual boot up things with the logo and stuff it started a scan, since I knew those 2 files were not malware I canceled the scan and Windows started, but the screen was darker, taskbar was back to classic style, sound was disabled, the wi-fi icon didn't even appear, and my usb mouse was not working but my phone was connected and charging, I couldn't do some things like adjust the brightness, etc. After I went to dr. Google in order to find a fix I found a forum thread and the recommended fix was to go to msconfig, services tab, and check enable all. Indeed my services were all stopped except for the Avast Anti-Virus ones, I enabled all, restarted, everything returned to normal except my mouse which is not working at all, no lights as well. (Had problems with this when mouse's under light and clicks were working but the cursor was not moving ) . My phone connects through USB normally. Everything seems to be working normally except for my mouse. Connected it to other PC's and the mouse works normally there.

Find what process creates a file?

$

Is there a process monitor that can tell when a file of a certain file name is created ... or perhaps when a particular folder gains files? (Or maybe you have a better solution.)

I found a hidden file in C:\ that was created in July. The filename is EFDE854DC30A (no extension) and inside contains only a 40-character hexadecimal line of text. I renamed the file a few days ago and a new copy was created yesterday.

Since this is a first (at least in the obvious way of being in C:\), I want to find out what program/process is creating this file. Neither set of characters is located in the registry, and it is not part of a virus or Trojan as far as I can tell.

[SOLVED] Want to load MS Office 2003 on W7 64-bit

I want to load Microsoft release disks for Office 2003 and Publisher 2003 on my PC, which runs Windows 7 64-bit.

Will W7 accept the install? will it run without errors?

thanks,
Dean Jones

p.s. Long shot, I know, but I acquired Office 2013 with a paid download. Had my machine rehab'd this summer and have to reload everything. I find that the backup disk sent with my purchase happens to be for W7 32-bit.

Besides that, I totally hated Ofc 2013 for the year or more I used it - way too complex for the ordinary home user. I got on top of Word and Publisher, but Xcel in '13 is something I could never get used to. Why would they screw up what had been a good application?

Safe Mode asks for non-existent password

Using W7 64-bit Pro.

Tried to use Safe Mode today. This is what happened:

Safe Mode prompted for a password to log me in. Nothing unusual about that as at that point I did have a password and entered it as I usually do. Screen said incorrect password. I checked caps lock off etc - ok. I was unable to check if keyboard was typing odd characters but I assume not for reasons you'll see below. But no login possible. Tried again and again.

Safe Mode would not accept my actual password nor a space nor no password. Rebooted selecting Safe Mode with Command Prompt but got the same screen again, not Command Mode.

Rebooted into Normal Mode. Password accepted. Went to password remove or change screen in Control Panel. Removed password and made new Admin account with a new password, so now 2 admin accounts.
All chaacters type normally in Normal mode - I don't know about Safe Mode as don't know how to check that.

Rebooted into Safe Mode yet again. Same problem again. The new admin account was visible BUT its password was rejected. The old admin account (no password now as I removed it) also asked for a password and would not log me in either without a password or with my old and removed password.

In a nutshell: because of this password prompt, I can no longer use Safe Mode. It's only a matter of time until this will be a serious issue.

It seems everything else on the computer is OK...so far.

Any ideas? - I can't find this problem reported anywhere.

Win 7 stuck at splash screen, need bootable usb os to run exe file

Hey

Short story:
I need to run a windows .exe file from a tool or os on a bootable usb drive.
What tool or os should i use? Read quote below.

Long story:
Yesterday my windows 7 got stuck on windows splash screen, and is also stuck trying to boot into safemode.
It stops loading drivers after 3 of the avg drivers are loaded and doesnt continue.
Ive tried going into the filesystem and removed some of the drivers but this automaticly boots me into startup repair that cant find anything wrong.

If its fixable at this point, thats the best, but if not, continue:

I also for some reason dont have any restore points.
I do think i may have a system image on the secondary drive, but this drive is also cached with a ocz synapse and the dataplex software.
This makes the 2nd harddrive not readable by default, so i have to disable dataplex from the outside as i cant boot to my win7.
Dataplex support is discontinued.
What i need to do to disable the dataplex software is:

Quote:

dr.exe is a disaster recovery utility, that may help user
to recover data from Dataplex target drive and cache drive
under scenarios where booting to Windows is not possible.

Please follow the steps below to run dr.exe on the
system with Dataplex installed -

1. Copy dr.exe to a bootable media (e.g, a boot-able usb)

2. Boot the system from the boot-able media created in 1. above

3. Run dr.exe

4. dr.exe will try to recover dirty data from cache SSD,
synchronize it to the target drive and disable the Dataplex.
I got dr.exe, but cant seem to find a bootable media that can run my exe file.
Ive tried running it from cmd in windows RE but it tells me it cant find the path although i point to it. And my parted magic tool cant run the exe either.
I got DOS on the usb drive too, but cant seem to find out how to run the exe file that is located on another usb drive.

I have done this before with the help from dataplex support, like 7 years ago and dont remember, and in the mails with them i cant find what type of "media" is running the exe.

Thanks

Computer has some issues.

Hi,

My computer is fairly new (4 years old), bought it for around £1,000. Sometimes when I opened some games eg. Nox, League, PUBG (does not run well. Really slow at rendering the graphics), and my internet will just stop working for Google Chrome for a few minutes, but it still works for my brother who is literally besides me. I scan my computer quite frequently but it has no signs of viruses.

When I open Nox/OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). It takes me to some mode, where the toolbar is lighter etc. Perhaps OpenGL (What the heck is this?)

Also, there's an arrow going anti-clockwise button on the top of my box, and was wondering what does that do. I was pressing it a couple of times and it does something with the fan.. Any ideas?

Like today I turned on my computer, and it didn't even load some of the apps on my start button and just froze, why is that?. I clear the dust out of my computer once in a while, maybe like 4/5 times, only because something in my computer was constantly ticking and I had to get rid of the sound.

Thanks
